Retirement model uses the annual dividend cash estimate as income, while reducing the assumed total return by an estimated dividend yield to avoid counting that same payout as both portfolio growth and spendable cash. This simplified approach assumes constant holdings and payouts; it is not a tax or dividend forecast.

Wade & Jen — ages and employment

Enter annual gross wages and employment dates for each person. A second job is optional. Work income appears in the annual cash-flow chart only while that job is active. Wages are not automatically added to investment balances; the monthly contributions slider controls invested savings.

Projected retirement monthly cash flow

Projected monthly expenses:

Income is before taxes. Expenses are inflated to the retirement date using the selected rate; assumes today’s expenses continue and rise with inflation. PERA and Social Security figures must be verified for eligibility, claiming ages and benefit rules. This is not a retirement sustainability calculation.

Retirement cash flow & investment longevity

Both graphs recalculate when you change your retirement forecast, income or household expenses.

Monthly household expenses with inflation

Expense amounts are projected using your annual inflation assumption, including years after retirement.

Remaining investment balance

Annual pension + Social Security—
Annual income after expenses—
Portfolio at retirement—
First-year income shortfall—
Projected depletion—

Illustrative deterministic projection, not a prediction. Assumes constant annual investment returns, end-of-year withdrawals, income benefits remain fixed in nominal dollars, and no new contributions after retirement. Pension and Social Security are modeled as starting at the retirement date; employment wages follow the entered job dates and are gross before taxes; claiming ages, COLAs, taxes, fees, market volatility and healthcare shocks are not modeled. The selected withdrawal percentage is a guideline, not an extra expense. Actual withdrawals are only the amount needed after pension and Social Security income. Do not use this projection alone to decide when to retire.
